Donald Trump said in a Fox News interview that he's considering a national ban on abortion. Related storiesBut one question Trump hasn't openly addressed is how he landed on the timeline for a national abortion ban. South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham introduced a piece of legislation in 2022 that would institute a federal abortion ban. Those respondents consisted of 52% of men saying they strongly or somewhat support the 16-week national ban, and 54% of women saying they strongly support or somewhat support the same ban. "As President Trump has stated, he would sit down with both sides and negotiate a deal that everyone will be happy with.

Annie Hamilton’s Courtside Adventure

Madison Square Garden went very quiet when my face appeared on the giant screen above center court. Eighteen thousand people — New Yorkers, no less — had decided to silence their cheers. Eighteen thousand people had agreed, as one, to reject me. The chyron below my face on the GardenVision screen read: “Actor.” That hurt, because I no longer think of myself as just an actor. It also hurt because the subhead read: “‘The Wolf of Snow Hollow.’” Solid movie — I mean no disrespect — but it’s just that I die within the first three minutes.

The recent missteps have created an unwelcome wrinkle for Trump, his campaign team and the larger Republican political apparatus. Republicans have questioned whether Biden is able to serve as commander-in-chief, pointing to his age and mental fitness. And, during a rally in South Carolina in September, Trump confused former Florida Gov. “President Trump continues to dominate in primary polls and is winning against Crooked Joe Biden in the general election,” Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement. Instead of attacking Biden directly over his age, Trump instead tries to paint Biden as “incompetent,” and “cognitively impaired,” which he argues is not solely about the president’s age.

A CNN broadcast with a chyron about a mass shooter in Colorado in 2021 was digitally altered and miscaptioned online as showing a headline about the suspect in the October mass shooting in Maine. Police have identified U.S. army reservist Robert R. Card as the suspect who killed 18 people in a mass shooting at a bar and bowling alley in Lewiston, Maine on Oct. 25. Posts on social media on Oct. 26 said: “The Maine shooter was an Arabic Obama supporter. However, the chyron at that timestamp reads: “COLORADO SHOOTING SUSPECT BOOKED INTO JAIL TODAY,” which does not match the inauthentic headline circulating online. The CNN chyron was digitally altered and stems from coverage of the 2021 mass shooting in Colorado, not the Maine mass shooting in October 2023.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is running for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, was booed at a vigil for victims of the Jacksonville shooting, but online posts share an altered clip replacing the boos with a “We want Trump” chant. The clip includes a CNN logo with a chyron that reads, “DESANTIS HECKLED IN JACKSONVILLE” and shows DeSantis interrupted by people chanting, “We want Trump!”Another example can be seen on Facebook (here). The clip stems from a prayer vigil for the Jacksonville shooting victims on Aug. 27. Ray Epps sued Fox News, saying host-turned-Twitter vlogger Tucker Carlson defamed him. Carlson accused him of being an FBI informant who incited the Capitol riot. Two top producers for Tucker Carlson’s former show have left Fox News, in the latest fallout from the network’s benching of Mr. Carlson. Alexander McCaskill, a senior producer and formerly the managing editor of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” wrote on Instagram that his last day at the network was Thursday. Thomas Fox, who was a senior editorial producer on that show, also departed this week, according to two people with knowledge of the moves. One of the people said Mr. McCaskill and Mr. Fox had been in discussions to leave the network before Tuesday, when a chyron that appeared on Fox News called President Biden a “wannabe dictator.”In a video posted to Twitter on Thursday, Mr. Carlson said the chyron had been posted by a producer at the network who had since left. While he did not identify Mr. McCaskill by name, Mr. Carlson listed facts about the person, such as his length of time at the network, that matched Mr. McCaskill.

Tucker Carlson took a dig at his former employer Fox News after it backpedaled on its "wannabe dictator" chyron. This week, Fox News labeled President Joe Biden a "wannabe dictator" in chyron text. The "wannabe dictator" message was on-screen for 27 seconds, the website Mediaite reported. Then the company issued a public apology for the 27-second-long 'wannabe dictator' line," Carlson said on his Twitter show. Carlson referenced her comments on his Twitter show before suggesting in a sarcastic rant that Biden is actually a "wannabe dictator."

A Fox News chyron called Biden a "wannabe dictator " who had "his political rival arrested." "Fox News Tonight" carried clips of Trump's speech after he was arrested and arraigned on Tuesday, alongside footage of Biden speaking at the White House, the latter with no audio. The onscreen text remained in place for around 15 seconds, continuing into the next show "Hannity," Mediaite reported. The Fox News onscreen text about Biden came despite Trump once praising China's President Xi Jinping for becoming "president for life," while joking that he should try to do the same thing. Fox News was the only major cable news network to carry Trump's speech live on Tuesday night, according to The Guardian.

New York CNN —Fox News on Wednesday acknowledged that an onscreen banner calling President Joe Biden a “wannabe dictator” was inappropriate and said it had taken steps to address the situation internally. “The chyron was taken down immediately and was addressed,” a Fox News spokesperson told CNN in a statement. “WANNABE DICTATOR SPEAKS AT THE WHITE HOUSE AFTER HAVING HIS POLITICAL RIVAL ARRESTED,” the onscreen text read. Biden and his White House have repeatedly stressed that he does not involve himself in Justice Department investigations and have said that the DOJ works independently of the White House’s influence. But Fox is fighting another defamation case from Smartmatic, another voting technology company, which is seeking a staggering $2.7 billion in damages.

Fox News Chyron Calls Biden a ‘Wannabe Dictator’

A Fox News chyron appeared to refer to President Biden as a “wannabe dictator” during footage of his remarks from the White House on Tuesday, the same day that former President Donald J. Trump was charged with federal crimes in a Miami courtroom. The onscreen text appeared briefly at the bottom of a split-screen broadcast that showed President Biden and former President Trump speaking from respective podiums, at the White House and a Trump golf club in Bedminster, N.J.“Wannabe dictator speaks at the White House after having his political rival arrested,” the chyron read. It did not refer to Mr. Biden by name, but the implication was clear. The alert appeared at the end of the 8 p.m. broadcast of “Fox News Tonight,” a prime-time show that recently replaced one that had been hosted by Tucker Carlson, a popular nightside host who was dismissed by the network in April. The footage of Mr. Biden showed him speaking on the South Lawn of the White House on Tuesday at a holiday event.

This week, CNN CEO Chris Licht was fired after a scathing profile was published in the Atlantic. In the profile, Licht details his own thoughts about how diversity should be defined in the media industry. In Alberta's profile, Licht claimed to be operating under his own idea of "diversity," one that does not include "virtue signaling." "I think 'Defund the police' would've been covered differently if newsrooms were filled with people who had lived in public housing," Licht continued. The diversity Licht did seem to value was geographic diversity, which can be a coded way of saying "not from the liberal coasts."
